How BCECEB counselling works
- Register at bceceboard.bihar.gov.in once the NEET result is declared and the Board notifies its schedule. Registration windows close well before allotment.
- Fill and lock choices in genuine preference order. An unlocked list is auto-locked at the deadline exactly as it stands.
- Allotment and reporting. Report physically against the allotment with original documents and the first-year fee as the letter specifies.
- Later rounds. Cutoffs fall through Round 2 and mop-up as candidates resign seats to upgrade.
Confirm the current registration fee, security deposit and forfeiture rules in the BCECEB information brochure for this cycle — the Board re-notifies them each year, and the deposit rules are what decide whether declining an allotment costs you money.
Why Bihar is worth registering for even if you live elsewhere
The tuition gap is the whole argument. A Bihar private seat at roughly ₹10 Lakhs a year against a deemed seat at ₹23 Lakhs is roughly ₹58 Lakhs across the course — for the same NMC-recognised MBBS degree. Registration costs a fee and a deposit.
The trade-off worth checking per college is clinical load. Ask about the attached hospital’s bed count and daily outpatient numbers before placing a college high in your list; five years of patient exposure is what the degree is actually for.
What to check about Bihar colleges specifically
Bihar’s low fees are genuine and regulated, not a discount concealing a catch. But the sector includes both long-established colleges with mature teaching hospitals and much newer institutions still building clinical capacity, and the fee difference between the two is small. That makes verification worth more here than in states where price sorts the field for you.
- Year of establishment and first graduating batch. A college that has graduated several cohorts has demonstrated it can run a full course. One that has not is a reasonable risk, but it should be a knowing one.
- Operational beds against daily outpatient attendance. Bed strength on paper means little without patients in them.
- Current NMC seat recognition for this academic year, from the regulator’s own list rather than the college’s claim.
- Location and living costs. Kishanganj, Katihar, Madhubani and Saharsa are small towns. That keeps costs down and limits everything else — worth knowing before five years rather than after one.
Round strategy for Bihar
Because Bihar’s tuition is the lowest in the country, its private seats attract national demand and the better-known colleges close earlier than the fee level alone would suggest. If your score sits in the 200–330 band, treat Round 1 seriously rather than assuming everything will still be available at mop-up.
Below roughly 180 marks, Bihar becomes a later-round proposition, and a deemed university is likely to be the more reliable route. Register for both — the Bihar deposit is a small price for keeping the cheapest option in play.
